Biography
SCIENCE O.C.N. was founded in 1997 with the initial aim of giving more space to certain sequences that were neglected in the structure of the CONSCIENCE songs. The project is purely instrumental and combines improvised elements with sometimes excessive sound experiments and melodies. The first album, “Linear,” was completed in 1998 but was not released on CD until 2000. During this time, the idea arose to structure the project as a concept in album cycles of 10 albums each. The first album of a cycle was to contain 10 tracks, the second 9, and so on, similar to a countdown. The cycles were named O. (Organization), C. (Collaboration), and N. (Network) in accordance with the project name.
You can find a podcast about the whole concept on the Science2-YouTube channel.
In the first cycle, the approach was to choose a different production approach for each album. In the second (current) cycle, each album contains at least one track that was created in collaboration with another artist.
All releases are to be understood as albums, regardless of the number of tracks. On platforms, the albums are sometimes incorrectly listed as EPs or even singles.

Again I wanted to try something different: Working with hardware as source of the sounds only, like nearly 14 years ago on “Linear” but this time with more equipment and the comfort of a digital workstation. In the end some sound from softsynths remained in the tracks because I didn’t manage to replace them properly. Some instruments had a certain role in the tracks. The JV1010 was always used for drums, the 01/W for pads and so on. The album deals with different moons throughout the solar system.
Equipment: Korg 01/W, Korg Poly 800, Korg Monotron, Roland JV1010, Waldorf Microwav,e Waldorf microQ, Yamaha FS1R, Ensoniq EPS 16+, Epiphone SG G-400, BR Rouge Acoustic L6, Softsynths.
Composed, produced, mixed and mastered by RI.

- Circular flow 06:23
- Coral reef 07:45
This is the fifth album of the first cycle.
I wanted to do an album with softsynths only, because I had never done that before. I just added some guitars. This dogmatic kind of production again led to a different sound. The album is about how oceans and deserts may sound.
Equipment: Softsynths, Yamaha Telecaster
Composed, produced, mixed and mastered by RI.
Released on areaDB.
Cover by Sebastian Sollfrank.
A second reality (Album) | 2008
- Microcosm 05:51
- Black hole 06:21
- Dimension six 06:40
- Next to the core 05:24
- Overtones 05:45
- Terabyte 05:56
- The future 07:12
This is the fourth album of the first cycle.
The idea behind the album was, to create ambient sounds with other instruments than synthesizers. So I recorded guitars, bass, voices and lots of other things and added a few synth sounds. The result sounds very unique, sometimes dark, sometimes experimental. The album-concept is about things that may have a second reality that we don’t see, another dimension that we don’t understand.
Equipment: Waldorf Microwave, Waldorf microQ, Kawai CA 1000, Roland JV1010, Yamaha Telecaster, Yamaha Bass BB424, BR Rouge Acoustic L6, Mandoline, Softsynths.
Composed, produced, mixed and mastered by RI.
Released on areaDB.

- Drifting through centuries 05:28
- Life in outerspace 07:18
This is the third album of the first cycle.
The use of softsynths and effects became more and more important and so this release is dominated by those elements. This led to a very special sound on this album. Most of the tracks have a darker approach than former tracks. On “Artifacts” I used some voice-samples which also dealt with the main theme of the album: Ancient civilizations. I didn’t manage to put the album out as a CD, so the album was available as CD-R. “Artifacts” was also released as digital download on Dream academy (2007) and later on AreaDB.
Equipment: Waldorf microQ, Waldorf Microwave, Yamaha FS1R, Roland JV1010, Kawai K2000, Yamaha Telecaster, Softsynths.
Composed, produced, mixed and mastered by RI.

This is the second album of the first cycle.
On this album new equipment was used and the production-process became very computer-based. I tried to keep a balance between the use of hard- and software.
The concept of the album is all about numbers and therefore an advancement of “Linear”. I didn’t manage to put the album out as a CD, so the album was available as CD-R.
“The character of numbers” was later also released as digital download on AreaDB.
The compilation “Relax Deluxe - Space Meditation (feat. Science O.C.N.)” contains the track “Solution”.
“Relax Deluxe - Robotronic Lounge (feat. Science O.C.N.)” contains 3 tracks from the album.

- Konvex 05:08
- Binary heart 06:42
This is the first album of the first cycle.
The tracks for “Linear” were recorded in 1998 and 1999. For some reasons the release of the CD was delayed. So it came out in 2000.
During that time the track “File two” was replaced by the track “Konvex”. “File two” ended up on the “Basis EP” which was released before the album.
“Konvex” was the only track which was recorded on harddisk (using Cubase via a Midiman Delta66), all others on a Sony DAT-Recorder (I still can hear the difference). It also contains the only sound by a softsynth on this album.
The CD wasn’t really mastered. The track “Unveiled” is some kind of a remix of the track “Veils over water” which was released on the album, “Scope” by CONSCIENCE in 1995. The track “Autumn” is based upon a sequence which was first used in the track “On the screen” by CONSCIENCE from the album “Phases”. “Oscillating dreams” was reworked several times. Version 2 ended up on the album.
First it was the concept of this project to use elements from CONSCIENCE and put it in another context. But this only happened on this album. The musical concept of this album was to deal with linearity in its various forms (“Linear Part I and II” and “Stillstand” being the best examples). Although I was influenced by acts like Tangerine dream, I tried to put some more sinister elements in. One task was not to sound like the so called “Berliner Schule”. A lot of sounds were edited and modulated live during the recording.
The track “Stillstand” also appeared on the sampler “Triton Vol. III” in 2002. “Linear” was later also released as digital download on AreaDB.
Equipment: Korg 01/W, Waldorf Microwave, Yamaha TG 500, Akai S2000, Yamaha Telecaster
Composed, produced, mixed and mastered by RI. Recorded digitally in 1998 and 1999.
CD released on KAFUE-Systeme.
